Mount Stephen Hall is possibly the smallest of the three ballrooms. Despite its size, however, it is the most popular wedding location in Alberta; with approximately 250 weddings in the summer.
The details of this room are stunning. For one, the armor seen in the picture second to the bottom, is from Scotland. Also, there are crests on the ceiling, one for each Canadian province. All provinces except Newfoundland have a crest, simply due to the fact the province was not part of confederation come the time crests were put into place. There are two paintings in the hall. One is on the bottom level, it is a painting of the Fairmont company's president: George Steven. The portrait is the picture at the bottom of this column. The more interesting painting is on the top level, just before the archway to the elevators. It is done by Sir William Cornelius Van Horne, the hotel's founder. His name is signed backwards. Why? Because after the whole incident with the hotel being built backwards (see the History page) it was the only thing the man was really light-hearted about.
